Yes the line comes out of the wall and has a T connection….up to the faucet and sideways to the dishwasher. The line doesn't appear to be twisted or kinked so if I run hot water at the faucet - it seems hot water should be running into the line for the dishwasher.  How can it be 80 while the sink is registering 120-130? I read online there can be 3-4 gal of cold water in the line that the dishwasher would pull in first.  But I get hot water at the faucet in 11 sec, and run it hot before I start the dishwasher so it shouldn't be pulling in cold water - unless it's sitting in the line??  Even so, if it pulled in hot water in the second fill the detergent packet would dissolve and it's not.

I agree, it's just us and I like hot water.

So does the dishwasher connect to the hot water faucet under the sink (cut-off valve coming out of the wall)?
I personally keep my water heater set @ 145 degrees. As long as only adults live there, everyone should have enough sense to not scald themselves.  Not that this answers the existing temperature drop.

I have a feeling when they added a new line and rerouted the line to the bathroom -then reconnected the kitchen back onto the hot water line — something didn't get done right — maybe the line to the bathroom is taking the hot water instead of letting it enter the dishwasher??  I know nothing about this obviously :)  I know it worked, now it doesn't and the only change was when they disconnected the kitchen to work on the line to the bathroom.  Never occurred to me that anything might be wrong since I have hot water at the kitchen sink in about 11 seconds as opposed to the 1 minute wait before.  Probably wouldn't have caught it if I'd been using the liquid dishwasher detergent like I did previously.

I am not a plumber but I would be tempted to say there is a cold water line connected somewhere ...and it shouldnt be.
