[DIY] Re: Whole house water filters

We Installed a whole house filter several years ago. It is a round canister which needs to be unscrewed from the top of the filter (which is installed in the main water line. Replacing the filter elements got to be a real chore The canister continually require super human strength to remove. Several times I thought I would break the main water line just trying to get the canister loose. When screwing the canister back on there was always a slight leak. We kept a bucket under it for any leakage. Evenually the leak would stop by itself. I tried lubracating the large O ring on the canister to no avail. We finally put on in the "Bypass" mode and left it alone. We also saw no difference in our water.

Because we live in an area with city water, but as I understand it, the water quality is awful. So wondering if a water filter will really help the content of particularly the drinking water so as not to pass on junk and that I don't have to continually carry bottles of water into the house. Thanks.
