[DIY] wish this could be more DIY

 

waterfurnace geothermal heat pump died. Compressor burnt out and
looks like whatever refrigerant they use got nasty and acidic
as it died and probably etched/trashed anything it came in contact.

sigh.

Getting any information on parts/cost/service you have to go
through authorized dealer.
No looking up part numbers on the web, and getting
an idea of price and whether you want to tackle as a DIY
or just pay to let someone else deal.

When the system is working, its great and energy efficient, but
feeling thwarted of even exploring the DIY options to fix it
leaves me frustrated.

In the meantime, keeping the woodstove going to keep
the radiant floors from cooling and sucking the
house into icebox land. Thankfully the house is pretty well
insulated.

When stuff like this comes up, I prefer to jump on this ASAP
to get it fixed. Its not as fun to have to wait for the wheels
to churn while not doing anything.

just venting a little.
