LED lights are much more efficient. The LED lumen equivalent of a 60 watt bulb is about 13 watts. In your example, it would draw about 1 amp at 12 volts.

One thing to remember when thinking about smaller wire for low voltage lighting is that lower voltage means higher amperage and that is what wire size is rated for. A 50 watt bulb @ 120 volts = .4 amp where @ 12 volts it is 4 amps.
