Re: [DIY] Now about space heaters

FYI....the use of aluminum wiring in Manufactured Homes (the current era name for what used to be called "mobile" homes) has been outlawed since 1976.

Small space heaters are safe in almost all manufactured homes. You still need to use common sense and be aware of potential problems. Unplug it when you are going to be gone for a while. Turn it off if you will not be in the room. Don't put it too close to upholstery or draperies. etc. etc. But some space heaters may actually cost more to heat a room than an updated central heating system.

Cindi, adjusting to winter temps after having lived in Florida is going to be a challenge for the first year or two. Get some warm house slippers with soles to help keep your feet warm. A cardigan or shawl across your shoulders will help too. Check the windows and doors to be sure you don't have air drafts. Find out if you can close off the air space under the manufactured home or add extra insulation under the floor. A foam mattress topper and a down comforter will also hold body heat close to you at night. ;)

Hope you enjoy your new home.
