Good point! Thanks! Wish that had been done around my dishwasher, sink, cabinets, etc. Had a flood due to old garbage disposal rusting out and separating from the sink. When the dishwasher ran into the garbage disposal the water went everywhere!!! Now I'm wondering if I could have mold under the cabinets?! Great! Just what I need! MOLD!!! I WAS just going to resurface the cabinets and get new doors. The cabinets were built 59years ago ON THE WALL by a carpenter, not the box type cabinets, so they are in (I think) good condition, but maybe I need to check for mold under them. How do I do that? Do I have to remove the cabinets? Any help appreciated.

You are thiMking ahead of many Handymen and some crappy contractors.
You should either tile there, or using the right thickness of plywood
and linoleum, make it even w the floor-to-be.
Next, once done, these leak once in a decade or so. I always
caulk the back & side walls to a height of 1/2" minimum. I do
this under kitchen sinks, too. here's why... When it leaks, it can
destroy a good wood cabinet abd will destroy particleboard
cabinets, asap. But if the leak comes out onto the
kitchen floor, you SEE it, and act! You turn off the water,
under the sink, to the washer or to the washer AND sink,
whichever you must... and get that water out from
under the cabinets!
If tile is higher, water WILL go under cabinets and flood there
until it's ~ 1/2" deep. Why? Cuz cabinets have shims
under them to make them level cuz flors ain't! So
there's a generous 1/8" gap under many of them.
Cabinet damage? Mebe floor and subfloor too.
USUALLY the recently mentioned water alarms are for under
water heaters in it's catch-pan, but are also good for
basements etc. Some need 120vac, but some use a
battery and are fine, if extremely rare, under dish washers.
Skip it. But seal those 3 sides so water HAS to come OUT
onto the kitchen floor. So you KNOW.
