Ok Frank its kind of hsrd to troubleshoot it with out being there.  But a little theory first.  Rev light needs two things to work a hot and a neutral.  Am guessing that your light is foreign made.  They usually don't follow any set color code.  Dune there after 4.wires ave there's bulbs Im guessing thst one of them is the hot constant feed.  And the others see the legs to the bulls.

There are two ways to check this out.  The proper way involved getting a tester.  A cheap  onebcosts about $5.    And you will use it as long as you own a house.   With the power on go between the metal housing of the fixture and each wire.  One should be hot if that is the cases thats the feed.

Step two.   Un screw the bulbs. Now go between the hot and each of the other wires.  With the switch on.  And if one lights then its the neutral wire.  But if it doesn't then each of this wires probably feeds one bulb.   If it does light me know and we will go from there.  But if it doesn't then priced to step 3.  Don't get worried it sounds a lot more diffic uh lt than it is.  I am trying to be as complete add I can be since Im not there to show
You.

Step 3.  Switch off put  bulbs back inplace .  And tie all four wires together.  And turn on the switch.  There are a couple of things that could happen.  If one is hot and the other control wires the bulbs should light.  And if one is hotand  One is the neutral are the brbreaker will trip.

If that happens let me know

John

Interesting. What would you recommend? How would I color coordinate that?

Black feed of the new switch goes to the current back and blue wires? White feed of the new switch goes to the current white and yellow wires?

Ok the more you  more it sounds like the switch was already broken before your son pulled the chain out of it, it sounds like it turned on one or two or three lights with multiple pulls on the chain and it got broken at some point. and it was just on all on all off now if that's all that you want the switch to do it can easily be replaced with a two wire switch . because it's just a matter of breaking the circuit.  Opening and closing a connection.

It seems to be. What is weird, it that it seems to apply to the switch that controls the fan, not the light. But those must be interchangeable, no?

At least the gives me a resource to explore.

Thanks.

It is actually the chain switch. My son ripped out the chain. It must have broke inside the switch. I opened up the light fixture, and realized that the chain switch had a black, blue, white and yellow feed.

I just can't find any switch with 4 wires.

Now, I am wondering if I can open the switch and re-attach the chain. That may be a possibility.

Perhaps I can replace the light, if all else fails. Thats an idea.

If its just the light then replace it.  Thinking back on the 100 or ive installed.  There's only a black and white supply wire to thelight and maybe 4 screws holding it together.  Take it off and find one to your liking.  Lowes. Homedepot  Or eBay.

That's a good idea. We have a store like that. I'll go over the weekend and see if it yields any luck.

Frank,

Have you looked in your local area for a store that sells mostly ceiling fans and lights? Often this type of store will do repairs and offer the option to special order repair parts for DIY.
