Re: [DIY] dampness odor

A shower valve can leak inside the wall too. Had that happen to me. Didn't notice it until the plaster started to crumble away near the floor of that wall.
You might check the dryer vent too. It may have a break in the vent line.
Do you know what a rats smell like? Its a very noticeable odor. I suppose it could be mistaken for moisture if you weren't familiar with the smell. Look for brown pellets under the stove, refrigerator and washing machine, dryer, etc.

Recently we have noticed an odor in the house. It smells damp. I am unable to find the source. We completely remodeled the house over the past 15 years. I do not see any visible sign of dampness on the walls, ceilings, basement or any where else. Under our front porch is a dirt crawl space with an access door which is in the basement. I have inspected it and it is dry and basically smells like dirt. I do not see any roof looks or other areas where the dampness is coming from. We even moved the furniture to see if something was underneath it creating the odor. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken
