RE: [DIY] Indoor Statue Repair

The Krylon texture paint can be purchased at most hardware stores and also at craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael's, but I'm in Wichita, KS, don't know if you have those two stores or not, but most craft stores have the paint. For the black specks, use an old toothbrush with a little black paint on it, then scrape your fingernail across the top of the bristles, it will splatter little flecks on whatever surface you aim at (sometimes even what you don't aim at lol). Test on a piece of cardboard or paper first to make sure you don't have too much paint on your toothbrush. I had to match flecks that were in a wall border so the wall paint below it would blend in and look like the border was waaay larger than it was. The bottom of border was a green pasture with dark blue flecks and I used it at chair rail height. I wanted the pasture to continue to the floor so I matched the paint color and added flecks to match. Turned out better than I thought it would! lol Surprised myself as I had never done this before. If I still had the walls the same I add a photo, but that was 20yrs ago, and I have since wallpapered that room. Anyway, try the toothbrush trick and see if it gives you the look you want. Good Luck! thanks Jan!  I apologize if I wasn't clear...it's *not* concrete.  It's some type of resin. The inside of the statue (in the photo it the white part), looks like some type of hardened

foam and just the "shell" is actually resin.  This "shell" is, and the photo doesn't show it well, a grainy gray with black flecks.  I think getting the black flecks may be the hardest

part of color matching.  If I can keep the area that's being patched small enough, it may fool the eye and not even be noticeable that there's no black flecks for a couple of inch

area that's being patched.

Any recommendations where I might be able to get any of these products except on line?

Aki, Iffen it were mine, and it isn't a valuable antique, I'd use a moldable, air dry clay product to fill the area or a very thick plaster mix.  Both can be shaped, sanded and painted.  You say this is concrete so I'd go with the plaster... mix very thick, apply with a brush - use a wet brush or your finger to shape, keeping it level with the surrounding area.   Krylon makes a Stone Texture paint that comes in several colors and looks very realistic.  Spray a bit in a dish, apply with a stipple brush till it blends in.  Another "craft" product :) is CelluClay - a dry paper maiche mix you can get in gray or white.  Mix with water to use and when dry the gray appears very close to concrete color and texture.  It sticks to anything, can be smoothed with a wet brush or  finger while it's drying or applied rough and sanded smooth.  Any of these would work and cost about $10.  There are also air-dry clays that mimic stone and an instant concrete repair mix might work too.  The chip doesn't appear too deep, so I'd think the plaster would be the easiest to apply and give you the best result.

Since it's at the bottom, you might even get away with just using the Krylon paint to disguise the fact it's chipped.  Stipple several layers drying well inbetween.  Nice angel, wouldn't mind having it in my entry, chipped or not!
