[DIY] Re: DIY Spray Foam Insulation

Laren: My house is a 40's-50's vintage and there are many spots that need insulation but conventional rigid foam and fiberglass batts are not really practical. I have talked to and looked at contractor applied spray foam but it is so expensive and impractical for my application. For one example, I want to insulate "and seal" the sill plate and joist cavity in the basement in preparation for finishing the insulation in the basement - But, it's going to take several weeks to do and it will have to be done in stages - Clear and prepare one area and then spray foam then move all of the stuff to another area and clean and prepare that. The contractor won't, and rightly so, keep coming back and setting up while I move stuff around in preparation for the next area. As a note: The one area that this house is extremely well insulated is the roof; so, thankfully I don't have to worry about that area - Unfortunately the rest of house - Not so well insulated.

I just can't thank the group enough - I really thought that DIY applied Spray Foam was non existent and not an option. As it turns out, thanks to information from the group, there is a plethora of resources. As an added bonus, most of the Mfg's web Sites are loaded with tips and hints as well as a variety of YouTube videos available for further examples. Thanks Again ... Ron
