It's always a bit funny when locals and even outsiders complain about the traffic in Houston. It's one of the largest and most populated cities in America. What do you expect!
There are a lot of beautiful, historical and even artsy areas of Houston worth seeing.
Houston is a bit funny in that you can be on one street (say in River Oaks or the Heights) admiring the beautiful area and then go one block over and suddenly feel very unsafe.

You've nailed that one for sure. Used to have to go down there once a month or so as part of my job. It is not a city but instead the worlds largest hodge-podge and traffic jam.
