In the olden days we used mayonnaise, rubbed it in let it sit and repeat. Sometimes added cigarette ashes but don't remember why :) I was just thinking about this; I forgot to remove the wet cloth on my Swiffer and it stood on the hardwood floor overnight, resulting in a white area. Suspect it's just in the finish but the mayonnaise trick popped into my mind.
