Re: [DIY] Plank over sheetrock?

Asked that myself, thought maybe it's to keep drafts from coming through?  It's 2700' 6"batts R-19, with 1/2" sheetrock - paper faced.  I assume he's also including caulking the areas where there are cracks.  I was looking on-line to see why we even need sheetrock and it says for the fire retardant and the wood stays flat.  He is using OSB in one area, but not where he's putting the sheetrock.

Why would you tape if you are going to cover it up?  The sheet rock will give a more solid wall but I don'' understand the rest of the job.  I don't know how many square feet you are talking about but 6,000 sounds a bit high to me for something that is just a backing.  Have you considered OSB for backing instead of sheet rock?  Much easier to attach to for installing your ship-lap.

We just got the estimates for getting the walls insulated, sheetrock/taped, ready to paint……. Over $6000 then another $2000 for the planks to go over the sheetrock.  Is it necessary to cover the fiberglass batts with sheetrock, if you're going to put a shiplap siding up?  We have tongue and groove on several walls but don't think I want that on all the walls.  I certainly wouldn't want to pay another $2000 to paint the sheetrock and put siding over it.
