What I'm going to tell you may sound crazy but, I assume the tank was fitted with a filter which if so will catch particles from the tank. If you know the tank is in fact empty which can be determined by tapping on the bottom with a small hammer. Once this has been determined flush the tank with clean water until the water runs clear. Drain the tank as completely as possible and pour in two gallons of ethanol and drain again. The ethanol will pick up 90% of any remaining water. Fill with fuel and add ethanol again to neutralize any remaining water liquid and vapor after you have replaced the filter and hose of course. You should then be good to go.

Question about a Gasoline Holding tank

I live on a mini farn in Tn. (20 acres)...Bought the farm in late
1998....at which time I also bought a 200 gallon gasoline tank. It was
all new and functional at the time........ for the 1st 4 years.....but
it has sit empty for the past ten years.
I need to know what I need to do now to clean it out ...or
whatever...to get it functional again.
I can only suppose I need to replace the hand pump for sure..as the
rubber hose from the tank to the nozzle has most certainaly
detriotrated over the years ...but what about any rust or corrosion
inside the tank?
I can only assume that it has to have some rust or corrosion inside
the tank, so how do I clean it out?
Any advice or answers will be appreciated.
