[DIY] door frame repair

 

I replaced hinges on a wooden front door. After that I had to adjust the striker plate for the door latch. I dooing so I noticed that this fifty year old door frame needs some repair in the area of the striker plate.
My first thought is to find some type of hard wood, trim it to fit the worn section of the door frame, cut out the location for the door latch, then glue the whole piece in place using either epoxy or titebond III.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated, especialy if I am off base with my idea.
