Re: [DIY] Dishwasher follow-up

Thanks again everyone, I appreciate the comments.    I'm going to contact GE first of the week but after reading all the suggestions, all the GE trouble shooting websites, googling it and talking to others — I have a feeling that what I see as a problem is the new "energy saving" features.  This is a 'tall tub', stainless steel. The "new" heating elements stay cool to the touch but it uses a hidden heater under the tub - don't understand that at all!   I guess no matter how hot the water is, less than a gallon sprayed around in a cold tub isn't going to stay hot - period. It takes three fills to get everything warmed up.  I ran a light cycle this morning, 49 minutes --- 20 minutes into the cycle the water is just warm but the detergent has been dispensed.  I know from experience this will not clean the dishes so had to reset it.  Using the AutoSense and sanitize, I definitely get clean dishes, just takes almost 4 hours.   How using less water, running twice as long plus a hidden heater is saving energy is beyond me.   I talked to a woman yesterday, same model, brand new, who had the same problem of dishes not being cleaned on a normal cycle, but is so pleased that you can't hear it running and it does sanitize the dishes they don't care that it takes 4 hours.  Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this is a problem.  I only started checking because the detergent wasn't dissolving on a normal cycle setting.

I'm finding a similar problem with my new washing machine.   The machine makes the decisions and it doesn't use enough water, in my opinion, to wash the clothes well.  We have the water heater set high - so the warm water setting is too warm for delicates.  Our cold is cold - it doesn't wash with less than 60 degrees so has an eco setting which adds cold water to the warm water setting - but washes longer.  (Same idea as the DW)  The lid locks whenever you close it.  This morning I wanted to spin the clothes again so closed the lid, set it to spin ——— and it filled with water, redistributed the clothes (no agitater) and showed 19 minutes to cycle.  I was so frustrated I've not even gone back down to see if they spun out any drier.  I'm afraid the problem is me.  I expect the dishwasher to be steaming hot when you open it and wash a load of dishes in less than an hour.  At my age I've learned how I like to wash my clothes.  We don't have little kids and think I'm smart enough to set my hot water heater at 130, and not scald myself.  If you're in the market for new appliances, the Energy-Star rating is a big deal but might not be what you expect.  I bought middle of the line, nothing exotic but didn't anticipate so many changes just to do everyday chores.

I have been called out on this before, but I think 116 degrees is way too low a temp. for hot water.  I have seen heaters that the thermostat will only go up to 125.  That heater is not for me.  I like 140-150.  The water being sprayed in the air inside the DW will drop 116 to cool in no time.  100 degrees is the typical temp. one has a Jacuzzi (hot tub) set at for a person to soak in.   Just my humble opinion.
