[DIY] Re: Sound proofing common walls

Sound Proofing can be difficult. With a stud wall the studs themselves will transmit from one panel to thee other. Ideally there should be two independent walls between the two houses. These should have the studs out of phase so insulation/ sound absorber covers all studs. That said this is hard and expensive to retrofit if it wasn't done right to begin with. A light weight foam or blown in insulation will help with the higher frequencies but probably not the door banging and base noises. Most insulation guys are good at heat loss but not acoustics. So get a few opinions you might be able to find someone who does sound control for more help.
