Good ideas you've got there.
I take the paint-paper sample tin the store to a dark area and look at it there.
This one color I choose for the bottom half of the DR looks moss green on one wall and a taupe (sp?) on another, ... sort of flips, but I like it a lot.
Trying to lay a foundation to that mural with the right base colors.
Living with animals and birds keeps me inventive on the decorating.
