Here is a tool I have used in the past and found very effective, plus it does not burn either the pattern nor the wood.  Rub over the transferred portion with a soft lead pencil for better visibility.

I'd like to find a transfer tool with variable heat.  The ones I see at amazon.com are a single heat and I've read it's difficult to use without burning the wood, fabric etc.  A transfer tool is similar to a wood burning tool, except it has a round disc at the tip instead of a pointed one for fine lines.  You can transfer a pattern onto wood without the use of graphite paper.
