[DIY] Re: Side w/ neighbor

Landscaping....you don't mention which Zone you are in for planting options (I'm in 10b). Podocarpus (cold hardy too) makes a lovely hedge and can be kept trimmed to a narrow thickness. We are using more rock in our landscaping this year. We have outlined planting beds (holds out excessive rain run off), you can even use mini-retaining walls for this. The walking areas are in small river rocks. Some of the larger planting areas (under the palms and specimen plants) are covered with River Jacks(larger river rock). We like the various textures and colors this brings to the landscape. The wet places don't get muddy anymore. I can put plants in pots and rearrange them if the plant doesn't do well in one place. Too much rain, I can pick up the pots and put them on risers. It is also easy to put a French drain under the gravel walk ways to help redirect excess run off.

My home being oldest- is Right next to the prop line just 4' maybe, well newer house there built up higher without considering the future needs of a garage and possibility of 2 car, so its drive is only wide enough for one car and is built up to the line (total disregarding precious neighbor/ and negligent previous owner on my end). So I ask you, what would you put here on my side for landscaping considering they are higher and there is risk of their runoff onto my lot though it does seem they are ok at this point- who knows if they decide to redo ugly drive.
