when you get the roots "cut out of the sewer drain, and you will have to have them cut out, put a product down the drain that has copper sulfate in it and do it every couple months at minimum. it kills the tiny roots before they become big ones. when it's dry out, the roots will seek your drain pipes like a dog to water. digging up the pipes would be a last resort. depends on how big the roots are.
the copper retards any and all root growth.
