Re: [DIY] table saw smoking

Howdy DIY Tom,

It's very possible you need to check the alinement of the saw blade to the rip fence and the blade to the table itself.  These mis alinements which need to be checked at least once a year, can cause the burning of the blade to the wood or the load to the motor. In the load to the motor misalinement you can get the burning and/or smoke problem from the motor bearings being old, the belt from the motor to blade pulley misalined, or even motor attached directly to shaft in which blade is mounted to.

If it's due to old or wore out bearings it's very easy to change these bearings out for a new set. Do remember that all motors now may still have a greese port or a greese fitting on the inboard and outboard bearings. However, DO NOT greese these bearings as they are all now packed bearings as you have on automoblies. There or a few or the older motors that do have bearings that need greesing but use just a small amount as otherwise you will bust be forcing greese into the motor stator/commentor ares and this will in time shortout the windings.

Just a thought on the smoking problem your table saw is having.  You might also want to talk to your table saw about smoking at it's going to shorten it's life, and other power tools don't want to have to draw in 2nd hand smoke from another power tool. =)) rolling on the floor

It might be table saw time.

it wasn't smoking due to heavy ripping. I get the smoke even with no load.
