Re: [DIY] vinyl siding opinions

sounds like you are on the right track as to the thickness thicker is better.but more$$ Some manufacturers colors are solid through the thickness and others make the color a certain thickness on a different color sub strait(back of panel). which means the color does not go through the complete thickness. Some are U.V coated to reflect the sun's rays and its damaging effects.check with your tax person as U.V coated metal roofs are considered energy saving and are tax deductible so maybe U.V coated siding may also qualify.also.As far as manufacturers ,mastic, certainteed have been around along time and I have used then often.I can say; if you pick something that is not a standard color (usually 13 basic colors). make sure you buy enough  of every thing for you current application  as I have had  manufacturers discontinue a color and when a home owner wanted attached garage that color was now longer available .Best thing is do what you are doing ask the questions then compare  all the makers products, warranties.

Subject: [DIY] vinyl siding opinions

Okay, instead of painting our house, we are thinking of covering it in vinyl siding. I know some like it, and some hate it. I don't care what your opinion on vinyl is, but I am interested in your opinion on different brands of vinyl siding. I think our top choice so far is timber Crest premium. We are also looking at a few lines from Certainteed, and Cellwood. Anything .42 mil and thinner is completely out of the question

thanks,
Michael
