Re: [DIY] Patio Advice Needed

Oooo!!  Ouch!!  I was sooo in hopes that it wouldn't be so involved.  When you say  "PROPERLY coat the wall", could you be more specific?  We may just have to do a deck instead of patio to save $ (we'd feel more comfortable w/the idea of bldg. a deck, & working w/wood more so than concrete, pavers, or stone), especially if we gotta dig down like this.......sounds like LOTS of $!!

It's v v late & I'll be away tomorrow, but a heads up...
The best way is partially, this.

WHERE you put the (assumedly permanent,) patio, you
want to excavate to basement floor level on THAT side of
the house, and PROPERLY coat the wall & then add a special
drainage material, WHICH WAS in "the old days." a ft wide
gravel and landscape fabric and drainage tube at the bottom.

The new stuff sorta looks like compressed excelsior, as in swamp
coolers, and takes far less than 6".

Later, or now, bring this drainage system around the rest
of the house.

Patio slope, is typically ~1/4" per foot for the 1st 3 ft. Thereafter,
flat is *typically,* permit-able, but unwise. Thew 1st amount is as
with a sidewalk & carries water away from the house foundation.
After that, depending on an in yard perc test, (you can do this,)
I'd suggest 1" in 10 ft, give or take. (Away from the house.)

Check w local planning for their recommendations. I dunno if your
rain is sorta even, or you get it in 6" increments... LOL!

Will TRY to remem to re read this one, & sketch the layout.
Guys? C'mon! Help her out! This is foundation-related.
A basis, & critical to make-up and all else... LOL!
