[DIY] Re: Attention Plumbers

Matters - just what you wanted to hear. if you have an older toilet with an old ballcock assembly, you might want to replace it with a new type like one from Fluidmaster around $20. You will need to take the tank off to work on it. The other option is that the flapper is not seating properly as the seal is worn or it is not aliened properly with the flapper. The flapper usually works with a chain. If it does not then you have a diaphragm type and I have no experience with that type.

If your toilet is old, you might consider replacing it with a new low flush but high seat and elongated toilet bowl. The ADA approved seat height is for comfort and the elongated bowl helps with the aim as well as comfort. Then there are many other factors and the space available is also a consideration. Before you purchase a new toilet, make certain you know the measurements to the drain from the wall. If less than 12", you need to check the manufacturer's specifications.

Have fun - I finally gave up trying to repair old toilets and bought new toilets in my rental unit.

Google is also a great resource.
