[DIY] Pulling Loads w/Vehicles

.We recently went through an extended research project to decide on
a tag-along trailer puller...

Long story short last year we purchased a Toyota Tundra 5.7 L crew cab
with 2" lifters.

We have towed now several thousand miles a 9,000 lb 32 ft North Trail
trailer with a tongue weight of about 850 lbs.  We can make pretty
good grades at speed limit (55 here in Ca)...some being Tioga pass,
Sherwin Grade, etc.

There is a good hitch with 2 sway and 2 load bars and we have survived
70 MPH winds on the road (allbeit at 10 MPH for 20 minutes till we
found shelter)...
All in all after about 14 months of trailering we are pleased with the Tundra
--it is quiet (aka not like a diesel although the new ones are a little more
quiet), strong and dependable...

We also installed about 500 watts of solar on top with a Xantrex converter and
Xantrex solar controller and 3 Grape Solar large panels (3x5', 200 watts each)
and 2 large 12 AGM Batteries (500 amp-hrs)

Thanks for all of the input.  It gives us a starting point & there may be more specific questions as we get a little further along.  My husband located the magazine, Trailer Life, through our county library system, as recommended by someone on here.  The specified issue w/all the pulling-vehicle ratings should be at our local library for us early next week.  We can hardly wait to take a look at their recommendations to try & decide what to shop for.  We're really leaning toward a 3/4 ton SOMEthing!  It would feel good to be on the "safe side"!!
Thanks,
Donna
