Re: [DIY] ceiling

Wet "plaster" can be a problem Kathy.  If it isn't saturated it might dry on it's own if not disturbed.  With a high ceiling you might run the heat a little, or fans, and help dry it.  If it does fall you are looking at least a patch job and having the entire ceiling repainted.  When we had a similar problem a few years ago, the ceiling texture was wet (not plaster) - and yes, you could mess it up if it was disturbed.  Once the roof was replaced and the ceiling dried the contractors used Kilz  to cover any stains and repainted the entire ceiling in every room that had had a leak.  As it happens, we had some bad storms after the new roof was on and ended up with leaks in rooms that had not had a problem before.  They said that's not unusual but as it turned out the only two rooms that didn't get repainted was the living room and front bath.  As we were having some work done in the living room anyway we had them go ahead and repaint the ceiling at our expense.  Then we repainted the bathroom ourselves.  A lot depends on what type of ceiling you have, sheetrock and a texture is pretty easy to repair, if it's actual lath and plaster there might be more expense.
